Sports form an integral part of the school routine and all students are encouraged to participate regularly. A normal school day begins with early morning P.T. or Aerobics, Yoga or Karate. In the afternoon, it is compulsory for every child to play games. Welham has four basketball, three badminton and two tennis courts. It also has one hockey and athletics field. Table Tennis is an important game in school. Qualified staff are in charge of games and Physical Education. Occasionally, special arrangements are made to appoint trainers from outside.

Regular matches are conducted between the five houses thereby developing an enthusiasm for sports and a spirit of healthy competition. Matches are frequently played against outstation schools that are members of the Indian Public Schools Association.

Welham girls are playing Basketball, Table Tennis and Karate at the National level and are regular winners of the District Athletics Championships.

The Welham Girls' Basketball team plays an average of 15 tournaments a year in the various age categories. These include tournaments at the local inter-school, District, State and National Levels. For over a decade the senior Basketball team has been the undefeated champion of the prestigious Indian Public Schools All-India tournament and the District and State championships, apart from prestigious tournaments like the Win Mumby Cup at Woodstock School Mussoorie.

Hockey has been traditionally popular in Welham Girls'. Each year the senior and junior teams play the Dehradun Council Schools Tournaments as well as the Indian Public Schools Conference Tournament. For many years now the Council Hockey Tournament Cup has been won by the Welham Girls' School team and we have been among the top three at the IPSC Tournament.

Table Tennis has been an increasingly strong game at school. After winning the IPSC Table Tennis Tournament, several girls were chosen to play at the National School Games in 2009.
