![]() Welham is a member of the International Award For Young People Scheme (the erstwhile Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme). Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded for adventure activities, physical fitness, extra-curricular activities and social service. The level of awards depends on the standards of excellence attained. The awards have an international standing. Through a balanced non-competitive programme of voluntary activities, young people between the ages of 14 and 25 are encouraged to develop qualities of self-reliance, perseverance and a sense of responsibility . Since its inception in 1956, more than two million young people of various nationalities from different backgrounds have participated in the Award Programme. SERVICE: This pertains to services to the under-privileged, old, orphaned, or mentally-challenged people. Each year a number of girls, working closely with local NGOs, engage in serious village development work. Some of the girls have also rendered valuable help to earthquake and flood-stricken areas. ADVENTURE: The aim of this section is to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery. The girls go on regular treks and hikes and have covered various picturesque parts of the Garhwal region. Rafting is also a popular adventure course pursued by the students. SKILLS AND INTERESTS: The aim of this section is to encourage the discovery and development of personal interests and social, practical and traditional skills. Welham Girls’ offers various activities such as Art, Craft, Music and Dance, Pottery, Debating, Drama, Creative Writing etc. |
