“The world has lost a great teacher, but your legacy will continue to live on through your students.”
It is a sad day for Welham today. Mrs Madhuri Jayal Mathur, former teacher of Home Science and later Vice Principal of Welham Girls’ School, left for her heavenly abode on 15th September, 2023. She was loved, respected and cherished by every single Welhamite and teacher who has had the honour of knowing her.
Mrs. Mathur was with Welham Girls’ School from the very first day, 31st January, 1957. A young, fresh graduate in Home Science from Lady Erwin College, Delhi, Mrs Mathur was hired by Ms Grace Mary Linnell and continued to be a part of the school until her retirement in 1996. She was appointed Vice Principal in 1988 and played an integral part in taking the school to greater heights.
She continued to be an active part of the school even after her retirement and stayed in touch with the students, staff and school. Mrs. Mathur started the Kar Kamal fair along with Mrs Shanti Varma which was extremely popular and became a regular fixture on the Welham calendar.
Mrs Mathur will always be remembered as an extremely warm, gentle, fair and amenable human being who inspired legions of young girls to become women of substance. Her rich legacy will always be celebrated.
Dear Mrs Mathur, your teachings will forever echo in our minds and hearts. May you find eternal peace!
