THE SUN
By Mridula Kandpal - PreSC Wednesday, Mar 30, 2022
The heat of the sun
pierces through my back
burning my insides.
My thoughts slowly evaporate,
my emotions dissipating rapidly
and yet I feel so used.
The sun rays look me in my eyes,
making me drown in tears of guilt
for all the people I’ve wronged.
The sun feels accomplished
when he takes away the light from your life
but who’ll tell him, that he’s got it all wrong?
The sun wants to be worshipped
because he’s consumed by the thought
of always being right.
I don’t fall for his games anymore
knowing all that will be left is
a barren land for a mind.
As I sit in the sun again
he tries to fill me up with its light
so I’ll always be indebted to him.
Soon he realizes
that no matter how hard he tries
the void in me is too dark to fill…

(I have referred to the sun as ‘he’ as I personally think the sun has a masculine energy. Although in the original version I have referred to the sun as ‘it’ as ‘it’ came across as if I was objectifying the sun.)
