Between Need and Greed
By Saisha Walia and Sarah Walia - AIII Monday, Sep 01, 2025
First and foremost, let us recall the words that Mahatma Gandhi once said, in which lies a profound challenge: “The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not for everyone’s greed.” Let us all pause, reflect, and act. It is surely a call for us to wake up.
India, a country full of deep values, vibrant colors, and ludicrously unforgettable beauty, is unfortunately facing cruel realities of what is happening to the environment. The environment is bursting with disasters in every nook and corner . The disasters, whether sudden cloudbursts sweeping all the people with their waves, harsh droughts, or even fierce storms for that matter, are nature's way of warning each one of us about the feather-like balance between humans and the Earth, which should surely be respected.
Think of a person who once breathed freshness and purity while inhaling air, now breathes toxic fumes. The Earth’s screams can be heard, and they speak to us in urgent, weakened tones, begging us not to burden it with the impact of our nasty, temporary enjoyments. The forests that breathe into the land have shrunk. The soil, once fertile, has weakened. Yet there is hope blossoming like a flower for us. So, let all of us bring education for the betterment of all—for the environment, for our country, for us.
