Childhood Dream Realized
By Arshia Aneja, A1 Friday, Aug 01, 2025
It will always be treasured memory to have met an Indian batsman who has scored 10,000 runs in the ODIs; someone whose professional journey has been nothing less than a fantasy. Since I first began watching ‘Dada’ play on the field as a child, meeting him has always been my dream. Finally, the dream materialised one evening in Kolkata when I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Sourav Ganguly, popularly known ‘Maharaja of Indian Cricket', in person. As we reached his house, I felt overwhelmed as a childhood fantasy was turning into reality. I was deeply moved by his welcoming nature and warmth. I learned a lot about his life experiences and his journey as a sportsman during our nearly hour-long conversation. As someone who has been playing badminton since I was in third grade, our conversation left me deeply motivated. I learned how to be a little stronger the next time I play badminton and try to defeat every opponent.
