Welham Girls’ School was abuzz with spirited sporting flair from 19th to 21st August, as we hosted the 7th Diamond Jubilee Invitational Basketball Tournament, featuring seven spirited teams from across the country.
Participants from schools, including Army Public School, Dagshai; Kasiga School, Dehradun; Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer; Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School, Jaipur; Pine Grove School, Himachal Pradesh; and two teams from Welham Girls’ School - Whites and Blues, took to the courts, in the action-packed tournament.
Built on a league-cum-knockout format, the tournament gave players ample opportunity to showcase both teamwork and competitive grit. The scheduled thrilling matches among the teams built up to the finale where Welham Girls’ School Blues and Pine Grove School, faced each other.
The Welham Blues stamped their authority early, securing a strong half-time lead of 15–05. They carried this momentum forward and sealed a convincing 34–15 victory, bringing the trophy home!
Individual brilliance that stood out:
* Saira Kaur Mann (Welham Girls’ School Blues) was awarded the Most Valuable Player.
* Agrima (Pine Grove School) was recognized as the Most Promising Player.
The matches were officiated by referees from the Basketball Federation of India and the District Basketball Association of Dehradun, ensuring fair play and smooth conduct throughout. The tournament turned out to be an exciting basketball extravaganza for the young athletes.
